We can find very high quality Educational Baby Toys which trigger off our children. When you walk in the street you can find lots of toys in the street, which are operated with the use of batteries. But those types of toys are not educational toys.

Educational toys are manufactured to keep the balance between the fun and education. Now there are many different kinds of toys available in the markets which are very hard to choose to benefit one child.

Each and every child has its own personality and interest. So when we choose a toy we should keep in mind about the child’s personality and interest. It is best before you choose one to your child, let the child to come to the shop and let the child select. If you feel its selection is fine then you may offer that toy to your child.

In this new era children are challenged to a great extent. So a grate toy will help in such a way to face the new challenges a child is going to face.

Educational toys make use of a child’s natural tendency to learn and encourage them to explore and develop skills.

For young children the time they spend playing is really the time they are spending in learning.
Some times educational toys will appear like fun and useless, but they really help the child to learn while they enjoy it. So each parent should provide correct toys to a child which increases the learning capacity of a child.

Mean time toys like guns and weapons are not educational toys. If a child is allowed to play such type of toys, it may develop the same attitude in his/ her life. If the children are exposed to positive skill and knowledge building Educational Baby Toys they will embrace learning more readily and feel comfortable with it. Else there is less hope they will move forward their skills as speedily as other children or even as well as they can for themselves.

Educational toys are the play utensils children use to learn and grow with. A child may not even understand that the toy selected for them has been chosen for its learning value as well as play value. There are toys available that will be far more educationally useful than others. It is the job of the parent to make the best use of a child’s play time.

Now we know the value of an educational toy and how it helps a child to face the new challenges in the new Era.

So it is the duty of each parent to provide the best educational toy and bring our younger generation good in education and to develop their skills in every aspect.

To choose the best educational toy you can consult with your friends who use such toys or there are many shops that provide such high quality educational toys.

After Child Birth

After Child Birth Information and Guideline

Being a tough and painful process, the process of childbirth is called labor.
Unlike ordinary cramps, labor pain is characterized by regular contraction of the womb. Starting from an interval of every 20 minutes, the frequency of the labor pains increases to 3 to 4 minutes.

Each labor pain consists of contraction and relaxation periods. During contraction, the neck of the womb (cervix) gets dilated. As it becomes stronger, the plug of mucus which covers the mouth breaks, letting bloodstained discharge. This occurs during the relaxation period. During each contraction, the muscles of the womb push the baby’s head further towards the cervix, thus stretching the cervix. Eventually, the mouth of the cervix is fully dilated.

Starting from back, the pain gradually moves to the front. From onset of pain to full dilation takes 12 to 24 hours, thus giving ample time for hospitalization.

Once the cervix is fully dilated, the sac of water surrounding the baby bursts. With this leakage of fluid, the labor pain heightens. The mother feels an extreme urge to push the baby out. Remember, all it takes is strong will, for nature is always there to help us out.

Eventually, the baby’s head reaches the edge of the mother’s body (vulva). After that the limbs and trunk are pushed out. As the baby comes out. Lot of blood-stained fluid also gushed out. This process of complete dilation of the cervix and eventually birth of baby takes anything between 15 minutes to an hour or two. As soon as the baby is out, the unbical cord is cut and clamped.

After the birth, the placenta is separated from the womb. It takes about 10 minutes to do so and is usually possible through voluntary effort. But if the mother fails to do so, it can be pushed out by pressing the abdomen in a definite manner.

After birth, the doctor takes the 1-minute Apgar score to find to study the health of the child, with score 2 indicating perfectly health baby.

During pregnancy

During Pregnancy Information and Guideline

It is important for the expectant mother to understand clearly how and in what matters she must take special care of herself and her baby, what she should do to ensure the health and welfare of both, and how she can make sure that the delivery will be normal and safe, without mishap. And she should make it a point to take the requisite measures.

Medical Check-up: The expectant mother should begin by consulting the family doctor, apprising him of all the relevant facts, and punctiliously following his directions. She should get herself registered in a reputable clinic, maternity hoe or hospital, visit the chosen establishment regularly, and keep the doctors in charge fully informed about the progress of her pregnancy, the state of her health and all other details, especially and departures from the normal or expected pattern.

Exercise: If the development of the fetus is proceeding normally and there are no physical reasons to the contrary, she should take such routine exercises as are advisable in her condition, taking care not to overtire herself. In particular, she should perform exercises which tone up the muscles of the waist, the back and the abdomen.

Exercise is no less important than fresh air for keeping the body healthy. The routine daily chores of household work can also serve the purpose of providing exercise to the body, as do exercise devised specifically for the purpose. But of course the expectant mother should not lift heavy loads, nor should she attempt anything which will cause excessive fatigue or require too much exertion.

Rest and Sleep: The pregnant woman gets tired comparatively more easily, especially in the first and the last trimester (three month periods of pregnancy). She should provide for sufficient rest in her daily routine. Normally it would be advisable for her to rest daily for eight hours at night hours at night and at least two hours in the day time. As the time for delivery draws near, she needs longer periods of rest. She should increase the daily periods of rest to at least 10 hours at night and at least four hours in the day time, making up as total of 14 to 16 hours of rest in every 24 hours. The expectant mother must form the habit of sleeping with her feet resting at slightly higher levels than the rest of the body. On no account should she sleep with the knees bent, nor sit with the legs folded under her as in a kneeling position. Such positions are likely to obstruct the circulation of blood in the lower regions of the legs, causing those parts to swell.
A pregnant woman often suffers from insomnia. In such a case, she resorts to sleeping pills. But such drugs may cause harms to her and to her baby. She would therefore be well advised to consult her physician, and be guided by him in this matter.

Baths: She should bath regularly, scrubbing each part of the body well, to ensure perfect cleanliness of the body. Preferably a tub should be used for the baths. She should also exercise great care while sitting down, standing up or moving in the bath room, so as to avoid slipping. The genitals should be cleaned thoroughly with warm water.

Clothing and Footwear: The expected mother should wear clothes that allow her to move freely without inconvenience. Loose-fitting robes called ‘maternity gowns’ (similar to maxi dresses) cover the body well, and present a becoming appearance, as they cover up the bulge of the abdomen in their folds. The breast must be supported by a well-fitting brassiere (‘bra’). Only flat-soled shoes or sleeper must be worn, as high-heeled ones make it difficult to keep one’s balance.

X-Rays (Radiographs) : X-Rays are harmful to the fetus, especially in the embryonic stages. The expectant mother should never permit herself to be X-rayed or take radiotherapy (radiation treatment), as the rays may cause defects of development at a later stage. In the final analysis, she should be guided by her physician as to the necessity of an X-ray.

Travel: There is no reason why a pregnant woman should not travel. But of course certain precautions must be taken. In particular, she should arrange to have enough space to get up an walk about for some time every two hours. It would be advisable for her to avoid traveling by air as far as possible.

Apprehensions Regarding Delivery: An expectant mother, especially if it is her first pregnancy, should get all the information she can about delivery, so as to allay all apprehensions about it. She can talk it over with her physician, her gynecologist, nurse or midwife. Authoritative books that discuss the problems in language comprehensible to the lay public can also serve as good sources of information. The fears that are aroused by casual talk in one’s social circles, full of varied and conflicting accounts and counsel, will be dispersed by the real understanding that its provided by such authoritative sources.

Sexual Intercourse: Barring the last four weeks or so, intercourse is normally not harmful or injurious either to the baby or the mother-to-be. However, if there is a possibility of miscarriage, it is best to avoid intercourse right, from the initial stages of pregnancy.

Smoking: The babies born to women who are given to smoking are generally smaller in size and lighter in weight. Their deliveries too are generally not easy, and in a large number of cases, the pregnancies end in miscarriages. Even if pregnancies are successfully carried to term, the babies are generally vulnerable to bacterial infections and respiratory diseases. The nicotine from the tobacco can find its way to the foetus, which would induce malformation of certain organs, or defects in the hearts of the babies. Such babies start having chest paint in the very first year of their lives. Women who smoke are subject, in the long run, to hemorrhages during pregnancy.

Drinking (Alcoholic Beverages): A baby developing in the womb of a woman who drinks may be defective in one way or another. Defects of heart muscles, fingers, toes, and even faces are and commonly observed in such babies. The nose is flattened, the jaws lack lack their normal contours, the nervous system does not function well, and stammering or stuttering is likely to mar the speech of the child when it grows up.

Vaccines: It is not advisable to administer and vaccine to a woman during the first three or four months of pregnancy. Once these injections have been taken during the first pregnancy, only one injection of tetanus vaccine suffices during subsequent pregnancies.

Delivery at Home: If delivery is arranged to take place at home the confinement room should be airy and well lighted. The bed should be placed in such a way as to leave sufficient space for movement on all four sides. Unnecessary articles of furniture etc. should be removed from the room. The doctor, nurse or midwife finds it more convenient if the cot is sufficiently high. All equipment and materials necessary for the mother and baby as advised by the doctor should be kept ready and accessible, so that there is no occasion for rushing about looking for things at the crucial time.

Sudden unanticipated Delivery: Often the baby is delivered before the nurse or the doctor arrives, or before the mother-to-be can reach the hospital. In such cases, the following points should be kept in mind.

(1) There is no need to be worried, if the delivery takes place in a normal and natural manner.
(2) The hands must be washed thoroughly before touching the genital region.
(3) As soon as the baby is delivered, its face, mouth, nose and head should be cleaned gently with a soft cloth.
(4) Or a handkerchief, taking care to see that its face is not covered up.
(5) The umbilical cord should be cut with a pair of scissors, and the placenta or after – birth permitted to be ejected in the natural course.
(6) The things and the buttocks of the mother should be wiped clean, but touching the vagina should be avoided.
(7) Let the mother have complete rest after the delivery. She can be given a warm drink if she feels a desire for it.

Exercise During pregnancy

Exercise During pregnancy

As the baby develops in the womb, the abdomen of the expectant mother progressively bulges forward. The increasing load in the abdomen creates tension in the muscles of the back and the waist. It is this tension that is responsible for the usual bolt-upright appearance. To enable the mother to carry the additional weight without strain, it is necessary to strength then these muscles.

The cartilage between the bones in the joints and the tendons attaching the muscles to the bones tend to soften after the delivery. Strengthening the muscles will help to maintain the elasticity and strength of these connective tissues, and minimize the softening. Exercises have been devised to strengthen the muscles that are involved, thus reducing the possibility of the consequent pain. Some exercise considered indispensable for toning up the muscles of the abdomen, back and waist are described here.

The mother-to-be must start performing these exercises just as soon as she learns that she is pregnant. She would of course be well advised to observe moderation in the matter, taking care that the quantum or the pace of the exercises should not be such as to cause undue fatigue. The benefits of these exercises will become apparent in the later stages of pregnancy when the abdomen begins to sag forward.

(1) Exercise for Strengthening the Waist Muscles: This is an exercise meant for the initial stages of pregnancy. Stand with the two feet slightly apart. Place the palms on the waist. Without shifting the feet, turn the upper torso 90 degrees to the right, and then to the left.
Repeat ten times for each side alternately.

(2) Exercise for Strengthening the Muscles of the Back and the Waist: Stand with the two feet planted slightly apart. Open the palms bend sideways to the right, keeping the left as low a point as possible with the right hand. Return to the initial position. Perform the same movement on the left. Repeat ten times for each side alternative.

(3) Exercise for Strengthening the Abdomen: Kneel on the floor, with the knees slightly apart. Raise the arms vertically upwards. Now turn on your waist towards the right and touch the right foot with the left hand and the left foot with the right hand. Return to the initial position. Perform the same movements towards the left. Repeat ten times for each side alternately.

(4) Exercise for Strengthening the Abdomen: Kneel down, with the knees slightly apart, and place your palms on the floor, assuming an all-fours position. Now, maintaining your balance and keeping the back straight, raise the right arm and the left leg till they are level with your back. Return to the initial position. Perform the same movement with the left arm and right leg. Repeat ten times for each side alternately.

(5) Exercise for Strengthening the Back: Lie flat, face up, on the floor. Bend the legs at the knees, thus bringing the feet nearer to the torso. Press down with one foot so as to raise the back off the floor. Maintain this position for six seconds. Return to the initial position. Now do the same with the other foot. Now press down with both feet simultaneously so as to raise the back off the floor. Maintain this position for six seconds. Return to the initial position. Repeat the whole sequence ten times.

(6) Exercise for Relieving Backache: Lie down flat, face up, on the floor; Bend the legs at the knees. Now raise the back of the floor, with arms extended forwards and reach for the keens. Keeping the back thus raised, impart a rotatory motion to hips. Keep this up for six seconds, without lowering the back. Let yourself down gently to the initial position. Repeat the entire sequence of movements ten times.

(7) Exercise for Relieving Backache: Kneel on the floor, and bend forward, assuming an all-fours position. Supporting yourself on the palms placed directly beneath the shoulders and on the toes of the feet, raises the knees off the floor. Raise the back, keeping the head down. Do not let the back sag down. Maintain this position for six seconds. Return to the all-fours position. Repeat the sequence of movements six times.

(8) Sit on a flat chair with a straight upright back. Place the palms on the knees. Now push the elbow outwards, without shifting the palms. This will put the abdominal muscles under tension. Maintain the tension for six seconds, and then relax slowly. Repeat it ten times.

The pregnant woman will be benefited greatly by choosing from among these exercises those that she feels to be necessary and convenient for herself, and performing them regularly.

Exercise for Relieving Backache and for Controlling Excessive Bulging of the Abdomen:

Most pregnant women suffer from backache, especially in the lower regions of the spine. Some of them develop this complaint after delivery. The exercises described here will prove beneficial in such cases. The exercises should be performed five times a day, and then the frequency should be gradually increased to 20 a day.

Child Diseases

Child Diseases Information and Guideline

Fever:
If the child feels drowsy, irritated or appears flushed around the face and ears, take the body temperature. If he has temperature remove clothing and light bed clothes. Check the room temperature-it should be neither too hot or cold – ideally around 25C (77 F). Give him plenty of drinks and some paracetamol. Give the dosage carefully. Cold sponge will be refreshing and have quick effect on the temperature. A fever strip thermometer is very useful to have when cold sponging as you can keep a check on the temperature.

If the temperature does not return to normal call the doctor. Mention him the temperature chart of the body over the past few hours (do not forget to take temperature after every two hours and prepare a temperature chart). High temperature can lead to convulsions. A convulsion is a series of muscular spasm which follow a headache or fever. Since they recur, anticonvulsant medicine is useful but a doctor should be consulted before administering it.

Shock:
Bad fright or failure of circulation and breathing following a bad accident or any other such severe causes can cause shock. The child is shaky and pale and if there is bleeding and pain, the reaction can be more severe.

Lie the child down so that the head is lower than the feet, thereby aiding the blood flow to the brain. Take care that breathing is not obstructed by any vomiting. Keep the child warm with loose fitting clothes. Try to relax the child. If situation does not improve, call the doctor.

In case of severe shock there are chances of bleeding also. In this case call the doctor immediately and in the meantime try to stop the bleeding.

Bites and Stings:
Wash the area and dry it. Dress it up and look for any signs of infection like redness around the edge of the wound. Severe bites or punctures to the skin should be dressed by a doctor as it needs immediate tetanus injections. Snake bites need prompt action. Wash and remove all traces of venom. Take the child to the doctor keeping the limb as still as possible.

Antihistamine creams re handy in case of stings. If there is severe reaction to a sting or he is stung in the mouth, take him immediately to a doctor. In case the child appears pale, sweaty and faint, treat him for a shock.

Black Eye:
A hard blow around the eyebrow, nose or cheek may result in swelling and gradually develop into a black eye. A cold compress such as a flannel or a tea towel wrapped round ice cubes will help soothe the pain. Black eyes become less swollen after a few days, becoming yellowy as they fade. Get the eye also examined for possible injuries.

Burns:
The effect of burns is not skin deep. The heat causes plasma in the blood vessels to escape, resulting in blister. In severe cases the plasma will need to be replaced by fluids in the hospital. Another problem is of infection, which increases the pain.

Burns can be caused by fire, chemicals, electricity and hot objects. Scalds are caused by hot liquids and steam.

As a first aid, cool the area for ten minutes under running cold water. Take off clothing or jewellery as swelling can later make this difficult. If the burn is less than 2cm square it can be treated at home. Else, seek medical advice immediately. In case of later, wrap the affected area by a clean handkerchief to keep infections away from the raw skin. Take the child immediately to hospital. In case of former dry the area gently. Do not treat the blisters as that protects the skin from infection and plasma is unable to leak further. Cover it with a sterile adhesive dressing.

Convulsions:
A sudden rise in temperature leading to muscles becoming rigid and displays jerks and twitches. If try to keep him on his side or on his front with his head turned to one side.

Usually convulsions last for a few minutes only. Children usually fall into a deep sleep afterwards. If there is temperature, treat him by a cold sponge.

Eye Injuries:
Eye injuries could be by corrosive chemicals, foreign bodies or external forces. Even the mildest injury should be checked with a specialist.

Shampoo or soap can cause a lot of irritation once it gets into the eye, though it does not cause any lasting damage. Any other liquid, if it creates irritation should be taken more seriously, in case it is acid or alkali. Wash the eye thoroughly and take the child to a doctor. Do carry the liquid to help the doctor understand the nature of the problem.

Dust, sand or insects usually wash away by themselves. Crying will in fact help in this. In case it does not, separate the eyelids and flush it with the help of cold water. Do not allow the child to rub his eye.

Head Injury:

In case of slight head injury put a ice pack on the affected part. If he seems to be dazed make his comfortable and encourage him to sleep. While sleeping, if his color and breathing are normal, leave him undisturbed. But if becomes paler, call the doctor. Also, if he is vomiting, bleeding, has irrational speech, has headache, behaves clumsily then call the doctor immediately.

Unconsciousness:
In case of unconsciousness, there is danger of getting chocked. So the baby should be made to lie down on his tummy with his head turned to one side. Pull the leg up and keep in a little raised position and tuck the arms at the elbow so that the hand is opposite to the face. This is called the recovery position and it helps in circulation and draining out of vomit or blood without obstructing the breathings. If he regains consciousness, let him lie down till the doctor comes. Do not offer any drink.

Choking:
Usually coughing is the easiest way to remove the object that is obstructing the circulation. But if the child cannot cough out the object, then no air is being able to get though. He will gradually turn blue. In such emergencies immediately call the doctor.
Try, if he can suck the object. Else, put him across your knees with his head lower than his legs and put him firmly between the shoulder blades.

If the object could not be removed, rush to hospital in the head-down position.

Nose Bleeds:
Nose bleeds can be due to extreme heat or excessive sneezing. If the bleeding is heavy, pinch can clot. Once the bleeding has stopped leave it undisturbed for an hour. The nose will feel uncomfortable and crusty but do no let the child blow or pick his nose.

Ill Child

Ill Child Information and Guideline

There are some general guidelines that any good mother needs to follow in case of illness. For specific cases of disorders, there are of course specific remedies. But some basic precautions and care are necessary to keep the child comfortable during illness. These are:

Ill children want company. That makes him less bored and neglected. So make him comfortable in a sofa or in kitchen where you can give him company.

An ill child always wants to go to bed. In fact, take that as a guide to his condition. To make him comfortable in bed put some extra pillows to prop him up. Keep the bed straightened and change the bed sheets regularly in case he has high fever and is sweating.

Keep the room well ventilated. This helps in keeping the room fresh and at proper room temperature.

Wash his hand and face at regular intervals. Freshness his mouth with a mouthwash if he cannot clean his teeth. Baths are not necessary.
Give easy games to occupy his time and mind.
Sitting ideal is all the more depressing. Hang with games, a few books, cassettes and other recreational products can be kept.
In case of fever or profuse seating cold sponge treatment is helpful. Before giving a sponge, cover the bed with a plastic or rubber sheet or towels. In a bowl of cold water dip a sponge or the flannel. The flannel should not be dropping. Instead the water should be squeezed before applying it. Let the water on the body dry by itself. This helps in keeping him cool. Leave a cool flannel on his forehead, neck and groin. Check the temperature every 10 minutes until it comes back to normal.

Children do not like to eat when they are ill. It is better to encourage them to drink diluted fruit juices, squash or plain water to avoid dehydration. Do not give too much at a time. This discourages him. Let him ask for more. Give small pieces of orange or other fruits that can increase his appetite and present constipation which is common during illness.

Children who do not like to take medicine can be administered medicine through dropper, syringe or special from spilling away in the event of child attempting to do so. Take note of any symptoms of allergies or side effects to any particular medicine. This should be notified to doctors whenever they prescribe any medicine.

Note the expiry date of medicine. Never give an extra spoonful in an attempt to finish a medicine or in hope of faster recovery. This can be harmful. Do not give medicine to a sleepy child as he may choke on it.

There are some illnesses which are serious and need immediate professional medical attention. But most of the illness can be handled at home. The primary treatment given at home is called ‘first aid’.

First let us take a stock of all those things that one should keep at hands reach for emergency. This is called the ‘first aid box’. The following should be a part of this box:

· A thermometer.
· An antiseptic cream, lotion and dettol.
· Sticking plaster and sterile gauges.
· Zinc oxide plaster for attaching gauze.
· Scissors and tweezers
· Medicated cotton.
· Crepe bandage for sprains.
· Gauze bandage to keep dressing on.
· Triangular bandage for sling.
· Clean handkerchief.
· Paracetamol suspension for infants.
· Tables for children.
· 5ml plastic spoon and syringe (in case the child has difficulty in taking medicine)
· Calamine lotion for rashes and bites.
· Insect sting reliever spray.
· Witch hazel for cuts.
· Aloe vera creams for burns.
· Nappy rash cream.
· Multivitamin drops.
· Vapour chest rub, vaporizers or inhalant capsules for colds.

Baby Eye Problem

Baby Eye Problem

Blindness
Symptoms: Very rarely, children are found unable to fix their gaze on objects. If this situation persists beyond six weeks, it could be due to toxoplasmosis or severe infection which can cause blindness. Even an untreated squint in lack of eye exercises may lead to blindness.

Treatment: For any visual problems consulting a specialist is the best, for minor infections ye drops or ointment is useful. While administering these, wash your hands properly and lay down the child. Give the drop into the corner of the eye just as the eye blinks.

Stye:
Symptoms: Starting as an infection of the sebaceous glands at the bottom of an eyelash, it gradually develops into a small boil. Symptoms o stye include redness and soreness and swollen eye.

Treatment: A hot clean linen or flannel can be held near the eye. This will help in soothing the pain and also to bring the infection to the tip of the boil. Once this happens, the stye will burst removing the infected matter from the eye. In case of problem with bursting take the assistance of doctor who can remove the eyelash with tweezers.

Eye Injuries

Eye injuries could be by corrosive chemicals, foreign bodies or external forces. Even the mildest injury should be checked with a specialist.

Shampoo or soap can cause a lot of irritation once it gets into the eye, though it does not cause any lasting damage. In case it does not, separate the eyelids and flush it with the help of cold water. Do not allow the child to rub his eye.

Certain precautions are very important to be followed. Never use any sharp object to remove an irritant from the eye. Do not try to remove anything from the colored part of the eye. Instead of a hanky or tissue, which can damage the eye, once can make us of the tongue to clear the eyeball.

Baby Sports

Baby Sports Information and Guideline

The baby does not show any tendency to play for the first three months or so, nor does it need the exercise involved in playing during this period. It gets all the exercise needs in the act of feeding. After three months, it begins to indulge in random movements of its arms and legs. It derives a certain pleasure from these movements, and makes various gurgling sounds to express this pleasure. At this age of four to five months, it can hold its head steady. At about this age it is becomes capable of sitting, which happens at the age of six months or so, it plays with things near at hand, including its etc.. Into its mouth, sucking or licking them. Sometimes it’s the baby, it will throw them again. It derives great pleasure from such activity.

As the child grows older, its tastes in play and playthings change. A one-year old child will play tirelessly with the sari of its mother or a piece of cloth. At the age of a year and a half, the child prefers toys in the shapes of animals and birds, and cycles, motor cars or even boxes. Tearing paper into pieces, activities give it pleasure and also help the development of its faculties. A two-year old child enjoys playing with chalk, pens, and rubbing them out. The parents may be inclined to view proved to be valuable from the point o view of the mental and intellectual development of the child.

A certain tendency to break and dismember various toys and other things develops in a child about this time. This is a natural phenomenon, which should not be viewed with concern denies is in reality and integrative and constructive one: agency clearing the way for creation that is exemplified here.

Baby Exercise

Baby Exercise Information and Guideline

The new born baby is exercising many of its muscles in the very act of feeding at the breast. Crying in itself is a very important exercise for the lungs and the diaphragm and plays a very important part in the development of the baby’s musculature. You have just to watch a baby feeding or crying to confirm these facts it can be said that the baby sometimes seems to cry just for the exercise the act involves. If therefore the baby seems to be crying naturally without any real cause of discomfort, you should not be in a hurry to stop its crying. Every tendency and activity of a child is natural and instinctive and rather than trying to stop such activity without after careful consideration. Our knowledge of the general principles and other information regarding the methods and manner of bringing up a child cannot be applied indiscriminately and uniformly to all children. For instance, a child that is normal in its health and in other ways may not cry, or may do so very infrequently. In such a case if the mother tries by various means to make it cry in the belief that ‘crying strengthens the lungs’ she would in fact be harming the child.

Play and exercise cannot really be distinguished in the case of a baby. Play exercises a variety of muscles, and the baby may enjoy exercising its muscles. In point of fact every kind of activity in playing involves movements of the muscles of the arms, legs and other parts of the body, and is thus a form of exercise.

There is a gradual accumulation of energy in the body of a child as it develops and grows. When the energy accumulates in abundance, it demands an outlet, and the child naturally turns to play. The exercise afforded by the activities involved in playing helps the child to use up the excess energy. As a British psychologist has aptly put it, ‘Play is the catharsis of the surplus energies of the child’.

Thus a judicious blend of sleep, play and exercise makes as great a contribution to the growth and development of the child as do all other factors put together.

Baby Jogging Strollers

Baby Jogging Strollers

Baby jogging strollers are the best to console the children with a soothing walk and touch. These strollers can be a good favorite for both mother and the child. The best use of these jogging strollers is that they can carry as much as three children as once. Its eyes remain closed. Gradually it wakes up, and from the fourth or the fifth day onwards the proportion of its waking period’s increases, but not to any large extent. For a month or a month and a half, it should be allowed to sleep as much as it wants to, during the day as well as during the night. Of course, there is no harm if it wakes up at the time of feeding, bathing, changing clothes or nappies etc. and plays for a few minutes.

A healthy baby that is getting sufficient nutrition remains asleep for long periods and does not cry or trouble the mother swing. It does not even need to be rocked in a cradle or a mentally-that it needs to be rocked or swung. After about six weeks there is a gradual decrease in the periods it spends in baby sleeping.

Apart from individual variations and environment factors, the periods of sleep required by a sleeping baby at various ages. If the child is not in normal health, it may sleep for shorter periods. For instance a sleeping child that does not get enough nutrition will wake up frequently because of its hunger pangs and will start crying. This will naturally reduce the total period of time it spends in sleeping.

The sleep requirements of babies between the sixth and twelfth months vary widely. Many factors may be responsible for this: physical health, environment, beliefs of the parents regarding the requirements of sleep, etc. Children up to the age of eight or nine years should get ten to twelve hours of sleep at night. If the child does not get sufficient sleep, or if it does not get sufficiently sound sleep, its health may be impaired. In fact the child needs sleep even more than it needs food. Moreover it is not enough that the child sleeps for ten hours; its sleep must be peaceful, deep and uninterrupted. The environment should therefore be quiet, not too warm and not to cold, and sufficiently protected from interruption. During sleep, the rates of breathing and heart-beats are lower. As a result, the nerves and the brain are at rest. In the body of the sleeping child the work of restoring the tissues is going on. Thus sleep is beneficial for the health of the child.

If the child wakes up smiling, in a cheerful mood, it can be inferred that it has had sufficient sleep, and to that extent it has gained in physical and mental health. If it wakes up crying, it has not had sufficient sleep.

Never wake-up a child unless there is a reason for doing so. And exhibiting your child to guests, or such other trivial reasons do not justify disturbing its sleep. In fine, waking up a sleeping child is justified only when it is to be fed.

Baby Sleeping Pillow

Baby Sleeping Pillow

As a parent or careering, you have a key job in choosing where your baby will sleep at night and naptime. This will provide a best memory to the parents and the child. So we can give the best comfort to our babies.

There are different kinds of baby pillows. They are side pillows and body pillows. They all are very equaled important to a sound sleep of a baby. Baby pillow helps in maintaining equal support for your child's hips and shoulders as they move from one sleeping position to another. This helps the baby to improve their muscular Relaxation, blood flow, and sustained deep sleep, relaxation and blood flow. Babies are safest sleeping on their back. If you want to introduce a pillow, it's better to wait until your child moves from a crib to a bed. But if you want to give him one while he's still sleeping in a crib, go with one that's small (the size of an airline pillow) and firm. Stay away from feather pillows, which are too soft, can set off allergies, and can smother a child if his head sinks into it while he's sleeping.

So when we decide to provide our baby with pillow then we have to consider lots of things because while we give him or her comfort we should consider the health and other conditions which we have discussed above.

How to stop the baby from Crying

How to stop the baby from Crying

How to stop the baby from Crying
While there are several ways in which parents can cope with crying babies, there is no prescribed formula. None of these methods will work every time; some may even not work at all. But, they are all worth trying. First, try to determine whether there is a basic underlying problem. For instance, you think the baby is hungry, try to breast or bottle. May be you need to change its nappy, remove or add a layer of clothing or reposition the baby.

Does the baby get spoilt if it is picked up every time it cries?
Many mothers believe that if you carry your baby every time it cries, you will be spoiling it. This may be true for an older baby. Some experts argue that you should not even think of these discipline issues before the child is 6-7 months old. But for a newborn baby, you should carry it as often as it likes. This is its way of telling you that it wants to feel safe and secure. Do not forget that it has spent the past nine months cuddled up in the mother’s womb.

When should one call the doctor?
Sudden sustained crying in a baby, who has not so much previously, could indicate pain or illness. With advances in medical knowledge, the medical community is found that certain aspects of crying many provide clues to illness. If a baby’s cry is unexplainably high-pitched, it could indicate illness.

Private Physical Content:
Sometimes babies cry simply because they miss the close contact with their mothers that they enjoyed for nine months. A recent U. S. study has shown that babies who were carried in the arms or in a baby carrier, for at least three hours every day, cried much less than those who were carried less. Carrying gives the baby a sense of physical closeness with the mother (a carry over from the days in the womb) and it may help the mother to tune in better to her baby’s needs.

Respond promptly:
Crying is the only way a baby can communicate with the world around her. When you respond immediately to your baby’s cry, you give it a sense of control over its surroundings and a feeling that it is important to you. There will be occasions when you feel that your prompt response has not made any difference. Your baby will continue crying, no matter what you do.

Remember that not responding to your baby is not an option, as you run the risk of it feeling powerless and worthless over time. This is because if the baby’s cries are ignored, it will work itself up into a rage and probably forget what it was crying baby about in the first place.

Baby Sleep Book

Baby Sleep Book

There are many books available that will teach you how to sleep you baby. There you can easily figure out which book is most helpful for your baby’s sleep problem. There entire books store section devoted to the topic of babies and sleep.

I spent a good part of last year writing Sleep Solutions for Your Baby, Toddler, and Preschooler (an award-winning book on babies, toddlers, preschoolers and sleep), so I learned a lot about this topic -- specifically which sleep books fall into which sleep training schools of thought, and which approaches tend to be most helpful with babies of various temperament and at various stages of development.

The Sleep Facts of Life

This is why one-size-fits-all sleep solutions feel as uncomfortable to you as a parent. You're being asked to fit your baby into an-off-the-shelf sleep program that was designed by someone who has never had the pleasure of meeting you or your baby.

No one sleep solution can work equally well for all parents and all babies because everyone's situation is unique and every baby is unique.

WHY THIS LENS?

I wrote this lens to try to help you to zero in on the books that are most likely to be helpful to you and your baby. If you'd like help in evaluating the pros and cons of each method (scientifically as well as from a parent and baby's point of view) or some background on how the various methods worked out for real parents, that's something my book explores in detail.

Here's how I've organized the books in this lens:

I. sleep books that would be useful to every parent
II. gentle/no-cry books
III. cry-it-out or modified cry-it-out books
IV. baby scheduling books
V. general sleep books that are worth reading

I've zeroed in on what I consider to be the best (or the most well known) in each of these categories.

I will likely update these choices over time because I continue to research sleep issues on an ongoing basis.

If you think I'm missing an important title, please feel free to leave me a note in the guestbook below. I always welcome input and ideas.
- Ann Douglas

Baby Umbrella Strollers

Baby Umbrella Strollers

Baby Umbrella Strollers
Most parents go out to get a huge, large stroller with everything in it which a child requires. Any time between ten weeks to three or four months of age, babies’ ten weeks to three or four months of age, babies’ mouths can leak like a faucet.

Chin or Face Rash:
Children who drool profusely sometimes develop a rash around the chin and mouth area because of irritation from constant salivating. You can help by wiping the droop with a towel from time to time. The excess saliva can cause your baby to gag or cough occasionally.

Biting:
The baby will have a tendency to nip or bite down on anything from his/her own hand to your breast. But after four or five months, the need for supplementary diet often arise, because of the growing nutritional requirements of the baby and also in part because of the decreased production of milk in the mother’s breasts. If the baby has been underweight from the time of its birth, it needs additional supplies of iron, calcium and vitamin D right from the age of one month. Apart from such special cases, a baby should generally be given calcium, iron and vitamin D in additional to its usual supply of milk in order to ensure rapid development.

Diet for Babies who have been weaned
During the third and the fourth month: The baby should be given a small ripe banana after mashing it well. Porridge prepared from sooji, rice or broken wheat can be given in amounts ranging from two teaspoonfuls to half a cup. Mashed fruit such as papaya, mangoes, chikoo(sapota) boiled apples, etc. can also be given in reasonable amounts. Some people prefer baby foods prepared from cereals, such as farex, nestum, bal amul, lactogen etc. The powders are no doubt very convenient to use, but they have a tendency to make babies rotund and overweight. They also place a heavy burden on the finances of the parents.

During the fifth and the sixth months : In addition to the above diet, soft-boiled vegetables like potatoes, carrots, peas, etc. can be cut into small pieces or mashed up and given to the baby, in accordance with its preferences. But excess should be avoided.

After teething: Once the baby has acquired some teeth, reasonable quantities of biscuits, pieces of carrots, ripe bananas and such other additions to its diet are permissible.

Great care must be taken to see that cups, saucers, bowls, spoons, etc. used in serving food to the child have been cleaned thoroughly, with boiling water and good cleaned powders. Ashes from wood or dung stoves are permissible cleaning agents, but clay or street dust should not be used by any means, a these involve the risk of infection, and may cause vomiting, diarrhea and dysentery.

Baby Milk Information and Guildeline

Baby Milk Information and Guildeline

The basic ingredient in most commercial baby milk preparations is cow’s milk, which has been modified to make it as similar to mother’s milk as possible. Select a formula that is closest to human milk in composition. In the types and proportions of proteins, fats, sugars, sodium, etc. Choose a formula that dissolves easily in boiled water, without leaving any granules. Special formulas are available for babies with milk allergies or metabolic disorders. Do not use any formula without the approval of your baby’s physician.

What kind of Formulas should be avoided?
Do not use homemade formula because formula made from fresh baby milk, sugar and water will not be a good as human milk. It will not nourish your baby and may impose a severe strain on the baby’s immature kidneys. Avoid condensed baby milk preparation and those that contain excessive sugar and have poor nutritional value. Skimmed milk powders are not advisable because of their low energy content.

How can one prepare a bottle feed using milk powder?
Put the necessary amount of boiled water in the bottle. Add the required amount of milk powder to the water. Remember to level the spoonfuls with a knife. Once you have added the powder to the water in the bottle, place the teat in reverse and tighten the cap of the bottle. Shake the bottle well until the powder is completely dissolved. Cool the bottle under running water and ensure that the temperature of the milk is lukewarm, before feeding the baby.

Is there any harm in making the milk more concentrated?
It is important that you stick to instructions and do not give more that the amount of milk powder that is recommended. If you do, the feed may become to rich for the baby. Your baby will begin to feel thirsty and become restless.

Baby Head

Baby Head

Do you change your newborn’s sleeping position every night? If not, it may lead to him developing flat spots on baby head or a flat head.

In some cases, the baby’s head becomes flat from one side and normally, developed from the other. It is a kind of cranial asymmetry known as Plagiocephaly. There are three kinds of cranial asymmetry.

Plagiocephaly, in which the child’s head is asymmetrical at the sides. One side is flatter than the other.

Brachycephaly, in which the back of the head is flat. Scaphocephaly, in which the head of the child is long and narrow.

Why Should this happen?
A newborn baby’s skull is very soft and it is still developing. The bones can easily be affected by pressure. When a baby sleeps in one position for very long, a lot of pressure is being applied to that particular area of the skull, causing it to flatten. As a result, you baby may develop a flat head.

Does this condition get all right on its own?
In no way does a flat head affect brain development. In addition, very often, as the child grow up, his skull regains its regular shape and this condition resolves itself, but this is not always the case, so it is not advisable to take a risk. After all, prevention is better than cure.

Prevention
A flat head occurs when a child sleeps in the same position, with the head turned in the same direction every night. To avoid this, you should turn you baby around every other night. Your baby will most probably want to face the room and not the well. So, if your baby is placed at the head of the crib one night and at the foot the other, he will sleep on his left or right side accordingly. This is called ‘counter positioning’.

Baby Nursing

Baby Nursing Information and Guideline

From birth to death, all animals, without exception, under go physical, mental and emotional growth, development and transformation. This process of development is of special significance in human beings. The body that nature had gifted to a baby at birth develops so rapidly day by day that an observer wonders at the enormous changes brought about in the course of a year. This is true of its mental development as well.

The various changes seen in the daily routine and the behavior of a child form a well-ordered and natural sequence. Certain specific changes in the minds and bodies of children behavior patterns of a person keep changing at every stage of development from childhood to old age. Fundamental changes are observed in mannerism, language, eating and drinking habits, play, work etc. These changes tend to occur at certain definite stages in the life of the individual.

States in the development of the child: Psychologists, sociologists and physiologists agree in their recognition of various stages of development. These stages have been demarcated and defined on the basis of the development of various bodily charactertistics and the associated behavioral changes. Ernest Jones, the eminent psychoanalyst, has described the following stages in the development of a child into adulthood.

Every parent has a special affection for his or her own offspring, and in addition to parental love, every parent takes a certain pride in the child. This love and affection often prevent parents from talking an objective view of the physical and mental development of the child. On the other hand, there are parents who are always dissatisfied with the progress of their child. All you hear from them about their child is , ‘my child is not growing well’. It is not robust enough’, ‘recently it seems to have lost weight’, etc. Such parents keep dosing the children with tonics and medicines, and then worry about the fact that despite all this care and treatment, the child is not gaining in height and weight as would normally be expected according to its age.

All parents should keep notes of the physical and mental development of their children. They should compare the progress of the child with that o other children of their age. Of course there is no need to get concerned or frightened if the comparison shows differences from other children. The development of all children is not necessarily parallel. Some babies learn to walk earlier than others, while some others learn to speak much earlier than is usual. No single characteristic or ability can be used a yardstick to evaluate the development of a child. But the general levels of attainment at different ages are shown in the table follows. It is easily washed off in the first bath. Incompatibility between mother’s and child’s blood group can cause the baby skin to be stained yellow. In such cases, the doctor immediately takes steps.

After the first bath a red and raw skin appears. Minor abrasion and raw areas ae vulnerable to bacterial infections. Blue patches in certain areas are visible initially, but they disappear on their own.The extra fairness in the natal stages should not be interpreted as fair complexion. It is due to absence of enough pigment (melanin) which develops over the week, bringing the normal color to the baby skin.

Baby Massage Oil

Baby Massage Oil

Baby Massage Oil

Baby Massage Oil helps your hands glide smoothly over your baby’s delicate skin. It is advisable to use cold-pressed fruit and/or vegetable oils, rather than mass-produced ‘baby oils’. Commercially produced oils are believed to dry the skin and clog the pores. If your baby were to put its hand in its mouth, you do not want to worry that a non-food substance is being introduced into your baby’s digestive system, which might happen with mineral baby oils. However, there are baby oils produced by companies whose products utilize medicinal grade mineral baby oil, which meets established standards for purity and safety.

In India, mothers use mustard oil to massage babies in the winter and coconut oil in the summer. Apricot and almond oil are smooth, light and easily absorbed. ‘Cold pressed’ oils are preferable, baby oils that are extracted only by means of pressure, without using heat or solvents that may destroy natural nutrients in the oil. Unscented baby massage oils are the best.
